Music is a life necessity for Gregor Salto, who has been dj-ing and producing extensively since his early teens.Never satisfied with just one particular sound, Gregor constantlyseeks to cross existing boundaries and take on new challenges.
That’show he could rise to the top as one of Holland’s most successful danceartists, while simultaneously using his own label G-Rex and sideprojects like Unite to further widen his musical scope.Young Gregor was struck by the house virus when he first heard Royal House’sclassic anthem Can You Party at a school dance.
He then decided hislife wouldn’t be fulfilling without making beats of his own.
Aftersome years of experimenting on his dad’s Amiga, Gregor debuted in 1994with 'Pangaea' on 'Fire & Ice' a sub-label of Amsterdam’s legendary'Outland Records'.
Many other releases followed, mostly in the clubhouse and trance genre, under monnikers like Luna Mora and The BeachHouse Brothers. But it would take another decade of hard work beforeGregor had his first big break. Can’t Stop
Playing, a catchy housetune produced with Dr. Kucho, skyrocketed to the Top 40 in 2004. Thatwas the start of Gregor’s ongoing roller-coaster ride through Dutchclubland, dj-ing anywhere from the smallest of backwater barns to thevastest of innercity superclubs and headlining most of the country’sleading festivals. Gregor has even extended his fame to most Europeancountries, the Middle East, Africa, South America and the Caribbean. He obviously knows what it takes to rock a dancefloor – something he’sstill proving every day of the weekend from behind the decks.
Tracks like Mas que nada, Lambada 3000 and La Diosa Misteriosa seem tounderline Gregor’s identity as a latin house artist. Yet his interestshave always extended to a wider variety of styles.
Gregor loves toincorporate organic influences into the digital world of electronicmusic – genres like soul, samba, jazz or salsa. His own label G-Rexhas proven to be the perfect platform for more adventurous endeavours. For his forthcoming debute album (due end of 2010) Gregor has evenproduced a traditional reggae track called Unite, featuring Antilliansinger Junior.Through his label and through numerous studio collaborations, Gregorhas come across many talented musicians.
To stage this diverse groupof artists and at the same time showcase the different aspects of hisown musical identity, Gregor has launched Unite. During these long, latin, jazz and soul flavoured d-jam sessions, everything seems tocome together. Because however versatile Gregor’s music, all of itcarries the same distinct and captivating flavour.
